Walker McKay’s fiancée had left him hours before their wedding to run off with a hat salesman, and he wants nothing to do with marriage. He’s an only child, however, and his foreman is always harping that Walker needs an heir. He’s young and healthy, though, so he’s in no hurry, until a bull almost kills him. Since he can’t bring himself to court again, he makes arrangements for a mail order bride.

Sarah Livingston’s father just doesn’t understand how much she wants a husband and children of her own, and he doesn’t think anyone is good enough, unless it’s a man who doesn’t want to marry her. When her father decides to send her to Uncle Brice’s in Georgia after her last escapade, she knows she’ll have to do something desperate. She decides to run to her friend in New York, but, on the way, she meets a young woman crying because she has to become a mail order bride. Sarah switches places with her, and when she meets Walker, she knows she did the right thing. Can she put off telling him the truth long enough to make him fall in love with her? As she tries, things become more and more complicated and messy.

For the most part, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Sarah is stubborn but lovable, because she has a big heart and wants to do the right thing, even when she makes bad choices. Walker is just as stubborn in his own way, and I could understand why he was leery of being deceived. Some of the things that happened with Caleb wasn’t rational, and I was surprised Sarah ran away when she had promised Walker she wouldn’t. The cover of the book is also wrong, because Sarah was a redhead. Overall, however, the story was riveting and a page-turner, and I had no problems giving it five stars.

Walker Wedding The Western Sky Series Lori Copeland 9780736927611 Books Reviews

Lori Copeland is awesome. I loved this book. It was entertaining and funny and just a really fun read. Broken hearts were mended and all turned out very well, but it looked pretty dismal for a while. I felt like I always do when reading her books, like I was there. I love the fact that she can incorporate "faith" into her characters lives that we can relate to even now.

I have loaded up my "wish list" with Ms. Copeland's books! Can't wait for Christmas (tomorrow)!
What an adventure this book took me on!!! I started to read about 7 or 8Pm, but since I am a slow reader, love imagining what is going on, I was still reading at 6am. Had a few pages left, but I just had to get to bed! It has adventure, girl what are you up to now, romance, suspense, Walker wake up and smell the coffee moments, characters to love, and the drunk chicken part was funny! One could occasionally say, "Oh no, Sarah!!" A book my husband can enjoy also. Yes, it is an adventure to truly be enjoyed!!!!
Poor Sarah wants nothing in life other than to be married and raise a family. She is the daughter of an extremely over-protective railroad baron, who finds all her suitors "unsuitable." She takes matters in her own hands and ends up as a mail-order bride, but she's not honest with him and therein lies the rub. Great story. I kept going back to it all day and finally finished it. Sarah is a powerhouse and her hero makes me want to slap him. Lots of chemistry, but a clean read (some kissing).
In the past I have read many of Ms. Copeland's books and greatly enjoyed them. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for this one. The main characters were so over-the-top stubborn and foolish as to be almost unbelievable, and spent most of the book throwing tantrums and refusing to communicate with each other. I've seen three-year-olds who have missed their nap and are coming down off a sugar high behave better. Rarely have I been so impatient with a group of characters. The premise was far-fetched, with plot twists that exceeded the bounds of reason, but were magically tied up in the last couple of pages. As for being "Christian fiction"...Godly thinking and Biblical values made a few brief, perfunctory appearances, but nothing of significance. I know Ms. Copeland is capable of much better than this, and hope to see it in the future.
3.5 stars. This was a good story, not a great one. I think the stubborn red head character has been done and over done in fiction. That said, I liked Sarah. However, I didn't love her. I wanted more of Walker in this story. The affection between the two of them was sweet, when they weren't fighting (and I loved some of the humor at the beginning. But where did it go as the book progressed?) I liked watching Walker fall in love with his wife. I did not like his inability to see what was going on around him or the dragging-out of their arguments. It took me half the book to get enough interested in the story to want to finish it.

Some of the plot was predictable, some of it was surprising. Lucy Mallory's arrival was surprising as was her swift departure from the book. Perhaps more should have been made of that. The handling of the situation with Caleb was also not exactly what I wanted. That he didn't actually hurt her and that Walker figured out where she was so quickly seemed implausible, given his willful blindness through much of the book. I did not like that she left and went back to Boston or that he let her get on the train. If he'd just realized he loved her, then why wouldn't he say so? I did like the second proposal and was happy they got back together. All in all, a decent book and a good read for anyone who likes CF western romance, but not at the top of my list.
