Miss Delacourt Speaks Her Mind was reminiscent of the "classic" Regency romances that I grew up with. A delightful comedy of errors, filled with sparkle and wit. I read the bulk of this novel during a flight from Arizona to Utah, and literally fell into a giggling fit during one section of this book. Thankfully, the flight wasn't full and the seat next to me was empty, so I didn't have to explain my embarrassing outburst. A book that literally makes me laugh out loud is rare these days. Brava, Ms Ashworth! I look forward to her next Regency!Tags : Miss Delacourt Speaks Her Mind (Avalon Romance) [Hiedi Ashworth] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Miss Delacourt Speaks Her Mind Avalon Romance Hiedi Ashworth 9780803499263 Books Reviews
I loved this book (and already bought the sequel). It was just a fun read that made me laugh out loud. My only problem was that my reading kept being interrupted by my husband asking me why I was laughing.
This book, available for so little via , is a wonderful, pleasant surprise. When I downloaded mine, there were a few formatting errors, but I loved the story, I was very entertained. If you love Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer, Julie Klassen, you will really enjoy this book!
This is a fun quick read book about times long gone. Miss Delacourt is an exciting, FUN character for the book with all her adventures. It is well written with some historical facts included which enhances the reading experience. Anyone with an interest in historical romance books would probably enjoy reading this book.
I read the next book first by mistake and didn't care for it like I did this one. Maybe that is why. I enjoyed this one with all the going on with who is engaged to whom. There was humor and mayhem everywhere. It was a nice Sunday read.
I actually purchased this book for $2.99. Had I realized how SHORT the book itself is, I would have requested that it be noted as a NOVELLA, not a full novel. Because my original expectation was that this book was a full novel, I was rather disappointed in terms of VALUE that I'd paid a full $2.99. I would have been HAPPY to pay $0.99 (one dollar) for a novella of this length and quality.
Other than that, I found the book to be overall cute but rather mediocre. One minor negative point that I had is the main male protagonist and main male antagonist should not have such similar sounding names! "Anthony" and "Avery" are both 3 syllable names starting with A and ending with Y - this caused me a bit of confusion and I had to flip back quite a few pages to re-establish which A was speaking at a particular time.
I did like the subplot with the 'Taming of the Shrew' references and how they referenced the characters' situations within the book, but overall felt it became too complex (what with Avery's multiple elopement requests/attempts, duels, etc.) and did not flow well. (SPOILER For example, at the ball, Lucinda cannot WAIT and is pushing pushing for her engagement to Anthony to be announced ASAP - but then the next time we see her, she's just happily eloping with Avery? No real explanation of her motivation AT ALL, and rather annoyingly so.)
In conclusion, this book was somewhat muddled, could have been vastly improved with a great editor, but it was cute, and I certainly wouldn't say it was a waste of my time to have read it.
Cheers.
Love should come from the heart and not be forced due to status. The children needed to run away in order to have the futures they wanted.
This is first book of a series, enjoyable main characters, chaos ensues during a journey into the countryside, robbery, chicken pox, quarantine, duel and an elopement.
